How Bristol Motor Speedway was turned into a football stadium

When the University of Tennessee Volunteers line up to play football versus the Virginia Tech Hokies around 8 pm Eastern this evening, they'll be doing so in front of the largest live crowd in NCAA history. The game is taking place at Bristol Motor Speedway, which normally hostsNASCAR racing events. We won't know exactly how many attendees there will be until the game actually kicks off, but the final tally could crest 150,000 (that's the total number of permanent seats at the Speedway). The current record of 115,109 was set in 2013 at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor.

Needless to say, a lot of work is involved in turning a race track into a college football venue. In addition to the installation of a proper football field, which we're sure was no small feat itself, there's a 700-ton, custom-made video board called Colossus suspended over the turf to make sure every single attendee has a good view of the action below. Oh, and don't forget the 540,000-watt audio system, either.
