Amazon Great Indian Sale 2016: Here are some of the best deals that we’ve handpicked just for you

Amazon-great-indian-sale-2016-Tech2-720-624x351 (1) The Amazon Great Indian sale has begun and will go on till 11:59PM on 10 August. This time around, Amazon has added in its Prime membership into the fold as well. Amazon Prime members will be getting access to all the major deals, 30 mins before the deal goes live for all the Amazon users.

The deals are being offered across a wide variety of categories such as electronics, home and kitchen, fashion and much more.

Apart from Amazon Prime users, SBI Credit and Debit card holders will get an additional 10 percent off if they shop via the app or 7.5 percent off if they shop via the website. You’ll have to spend a minimum of Rs 5,000 to avail the offer and the maximum discount is Rs 2,000.

Kindle

Amazon always makes it a point to offer customers a good deal on its Kindle e-book readers during its Great Indian sales. This time it’s no different. The brand new, entry level Kindlehas got a discount of Rs 1,000 and will be selling for Rs 4,999. The Kindle Paperwhite will be selling for Rs 2,000 less at Rs 8,999. The prices for the Kindle Voyage and Kindle Oasisremain unchanged.

Jawbone

Jawbone’s activity trackers seem to have received a price drop as well. The Jawbone UP2activity tracker is going for Rs 5,999, which is a Rs 4,000 price drop and the Jawbone UP3 is selling for Rs 8,999, which is a Rs 6,000 price drop. But mind you, both these deals will only last 5 hours.

Fitbit

Fitbit is also offering some discounts on its fitness bands. The Charge HR has a Rs 3,000 discount and is selling for Rs 11,999; the Fitbit Blaze smartwatch is being offered for Rs 4,000 off at Rs 15,999; the recently announced Fitbit Alta fitness tracker has a Rs 2,600 discount and the band is selling for Rs 10,399. The Fitbit Charge is selling for Rs 9,199 after a Rs 2,300 discount.

Mobile Phones

When it comes to deals, it’s the mobile phones category that gets the most attention. So here is a list of mobile phones that are on offer, some of them being offered as Lightning deals, which means that the discounts will only last for a few hours.

Lenovo Vibe K4 Note is priced at Rs 10,999 (down from Rs 11,499).

What channel is Liverpool vs Barcelona on? All you need to know as the two sides clash at Wembley

Keep calm, football fans. There is just one week to go until the Premier League begins again.

But until then, we have a few more friendlies to get through. And as they go - this one is a biggy.

Barcelona travel to Wembley to take on Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp gets another look at his side before next weekend's big kick-off at the Emirates.

So - when does the action get underway? And where can you see it unfold?

What time does it kick-off?

It’s a Saturday tea-time 5.15pm start … which is fine if you’re settling down in front of the TV at home or popping into the local to watch, but desperate if you’re actually going to the match.

The late kick-off – coupled with “essential maintenance work” means just one already “very busy” train service is available back to Liverpool after the final whistle.

And even that departs at 8.11pm. Don’t hang around to wave to the players afterwards.

So it IS on TV then?

Sky Sports 1 are showing it live, coverage kicking-off at 5pm. It’s also on LFCTV if you have a subscription. Alternatively, you can buy a day pass at NowTV for £6.99 and watch the match online.

But is there an actual International Champions Cup?

One? There are actually three! One for the winner of the USA/Europe tournament, one for the tournament staged in Australia and another for the Chinese version.

Obviously Liverpool are in the USA/Europe competition alongside Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Celtic, Barcelona, Leicester, Chelsea, Real Madrid and PSG.

It’s all down to a pair of Scousers. Yes, really.

Arthur and Ernest Witty were old boys from Merchant Taylors’ School in Crosby – and they have been credited with organising Barcelona’s first international match, copying the school’s sports colours for Barca’s strip – and even introducing a style of play which combined both physicality and deftness of touch!

FC Barcelona was founded by Hans Kamper (later Joan Gamper), a Swiss commodities trader.

But the Witty brothers were also an early driving force at the club.

Legend has it that the Witty brothers modelled the legendary Barcelona colours, the blaugrana, after the original colours used by Merchant Taylors’ rugby team.

It’s all there in black and white (sorry) in Jimmy Burns’ history of Barça, called, er, Barça.

Burns writes: “In correspondence with Arthur’s son Frederick in 1975, the school’s then-headmaster Reverend H M Luft reinforced this claim.

"In a letter, which I have seen, Reverend Luft states: ‘I think it is very likely that the present colours of FC Barcelona are ultimately derived from our original colours here.’”

Airtel announces unlimited calling postpaid plans, bundled with data, for Rs 1,199

announced new postpaid plans including one that offers unlimited mobile calls along with bundled 3G/4G data for Rs 1,199.

“Under the new ‘Infinity’ plans, for Rs 1,199, customers will enjoy unlimited voice calling – local, STD, and on national roaming – along with 100 SMS per day, 1GB 3G/4G data and free subscription to Wynk Music and Wynk Movies,” an Airtel release said here.

Under another plan, it will offer unlimited voice calling along with 100 SMS per day, 5GB 3G/4G data and free subscription to Wynk Music and Wynk Movies for Rs 1,599.

While the content subscription on Wynk Music and Wynk Movies is free, the data access charges will apply.

Mobile companies including Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Idea have opened new frontiers in data services war as they gear up to take on Reliance Jio, which is all set to launch 4G services in coming months. The Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio has slashed price of 4G LYF handsets by 25 per cent to Rs 2,999.

The LYF handset comes bundled free Jio SIM. Reliance Jio is offering 90 days of free unlimited 4G mobile internet and voice calling in the SIM cards.

Industry watchers say that Jio, which has already onboarded over 15 lakh customers in the trial launch stage, may offer high-speed data at very low price or may bundle free voice calls to lure users in the world’s second-largest smartphone market.

Confronted by the looming threat, mobile services companies have been announcing an effective reduction in mobile internet rates by packing in extra data for the same price.

Following rate cuts by major operators Airtel and Idea Cellular, Vodafone too recently came out with promotional schemes offering up to 67 per cent more data for 2G, 3G and 4G services at no extra cost during this month.

In a release issued today, Bharti Airtel’s Director – Operations (India & South Asia) Ajai Puri, said, “With ‘myPlan Infinity’, we are making voice calls free for our customers and offering them the flexibility to combine this benefit with their individual data requirements”.

With the new price points, the company has made the proposition even more affordable and the move will benefit customers with very heavy voice usage, he added.

The new plans will also offer a pay-as-go-rate of 50p/MB after the prescribed data limit is exhausted.

Google Doodle celebrates Rio Olympics 2016 with Fruit Games and mobile game

google_doodle_4_aug-624x351 With the Rio Olympics 2016 kicking off this week, we did expect Google to put up and interesting doodle like they always do. This time however, things get a lot more interactive and fun as Google has not just put up a cool doodle but added a mobile game in the iOS and Android app as well.

The doodle in itself is pretty entertaining and shows off some fruits participating in the mock ‘Fruit Games’. The video however also explains the concepts behind the games and shows off various levels inside it.

Coming to the game itself, there are a couple of them. There are plenty of choices inside that will keep you entertained for a whole week. There is a biking game, water polo, spider hurdles, tennis and much more. Oh Yes! Then there is that strawberry that makes it past the finish line in the video and avoids getting crushed by the gigantic rolling watermelon. That’s a game too!

Love the idea? Well, grab your phone and get playing right now. Pokemon Go can always wait because these cute little fruit games will only be available for the next seven days. If you have not downloaded the Google Search app for iOS, well Google just gave you one fun reason to do the same.

Just a couple of days ago, Google provided one more reason to use its search for everything Olympics. The search giant loaded up a special Olympics widget.

Primarily, Google will provide all the information you want via cards. These cards will pop-up when you search for relevant information via Google and will display information on event schedules, athlete information, etc.

You’ll also be presented with TV schedules in “30+ countries” and have the option of watching events live streamed on YouTube. In fact, Google is sending 15 creators to Rio to “give you a taste of what it’s like to be there.”
