You are driving back from work post midnight, your car breaks down and when you get down you see a girl across the road dancing in rain and you fall in love with her. Well, this definitely is straight out of a bollywood flick and doesn’t happen in real life. But, feeling attracted to someone at the very first meet is not uncommon. The answer is simple, it is all related to how your mind works.
Each one of us has got some kind of a check list on what kind of a person we want to meet and then fall in love with. For instance, we would have always wanted a partner who is tall, rich or someone who has a great sense of humour. Some even think of the kind of profession their boyfriend or girl friend should be in. Yes, in some cases, this does work. Some of us do eventually find someone who fits the bill. But in most of the cases, it doesn’t work that way. You fall for what you never imagined at the first place.
For instance, studies say that people are more likely to be attracted to someone who didn't find them appealing at first but eventually came close to them than someone who always liked them. This was revealed in a 1972 study by Jerome Tognoli and Robert Keisner about the gain-loss theory of attraction. Participants accidentally heard the experimenter describe them in either a positive or negative way. It turned out that participants liked the experimenter far more when they gave them an initially negative rating that later became positive. This shows that people find it more rewarding when they need to win someone over.
Well, there's no shortage of advice on where to meet the right person, how to approach and how to have a long committed relationship. But many a times, people are attracted to each other for seemingly arbitrary but psychological reasons. Here are some of these reasons why someone would fall in love with you.
