Amazon Prime: A step-by-step guide to using the service in India

Amazon Prime is here, but it’s not the full experience we expected. Prime Delivery is still not such a bad deal however, especially if you place a lot of orders on the site.

Amazon Prime in India promises the following:

  • Guaranteed, free 1-day or 2-day delivery as applicable, but only in select cities

  • 30-minutes early access to Amazon’s Lightning deals

  • Discounted same-day and scheduled delivery in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad.

  • No restriction on order size.

  • All Amazon Prime orders will be Amazon fulfilled.

  • A 60-day free trial, a Rs 499 a year introductory offer and Rs 999 a year from then on.

Amazon Prime Video, an unlimited video streaming service, “is coming,” says Amazon.

Here’s how you go about ordering something on Amazon while taking full advantage of Amazon Prime:

Create an account: If you don’t already have an Amazon account, create one. Just head to Amazon.in and create an account. You’ll need to enter your Name, shipping and billing addresses and contact details. Once you’re signed in, simply click on the ‘Try Prime’ button to start your 60-day trial and activate Amazon Prime.

As a prime member, products that are covered by Amazon Prime will have a blue, Prime logo with an orange tick mark. You can also set a filter for Amazon Prime in the filters column on the Amazon website.

Delivery times: Below that logo will be information on delivery. Amazon will write “FREE Delivery” for items that will be delivered for free in two days or more and “Free Delivery by Tomorrow” for items that will be delivered for free in 1 day.
