Those of you who are ready to buy a Redmi Note 3, it’s wise not to hit that ‘buy’ button just yet! We almost fell in love with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, as you can see in our full review, but the next one’s going to be a lot better and it’s launch is just around the corner.
While there have been plenty of Redmi Note 4 leaks in the past, today’s update is indeed the biggest one. The new leak shows off a label off the box of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, confirming not just the existence of the smartphone, but its specifications as well.
The image of the box label comes from a Weibo account and it finally gives fans an idea of the upcoming Redmi Note 4’s specifications. The image reveals a 4G-enabled handset with a powerful MediaTek Helio X20chipset inside.
The deca-core chipset, which is also the first to feature a Tri-Cluster CPU setup, is clocked at 2.3GHz and will be accompanied by 3GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The setup consists of a 20nm deca-core CPU (2 x Cortex-A72 @ 2.5GHz + 4x Cortex-A53 @ 2.0GHz + 4x Cortex-A53 @ 1.4GHz) as compared to the 650’s 28nm hexa-core CPU, up to 1.8 GHz (2x ARM Cortex A72 + 4x ARM Cortex A53). This is a big spec bump over the currently available Snapdragon 650 inside the Note 3. The smartphone will also pack in 4G radios and will be powered by a 4,100mAh battery.
Coming to the cameras, the label simply shows a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front-facing selfie camera.
On the front sits a 5.5-inch Full HD display and the smartphone also features a fingerprint reader along with a metal construction.
While the camera section does mention the presence of a 13MP primary shooter, it does not mention the presence of a dual-camera system. This leads us to believe, that the mysterious second camera could just be a fingerprint reader with a glass surface. But the image below clearly shows a camera module beneath both.
This could indeed be the metal-bodied smartphone that leaked out recently in two images. The first image (shown above) showcased the polished metal body and the dual camera setup, while the second one showed actor Haoran Liu posing with the smartphone.
While the body seemed to be made of metal, the dual camera setup came as a surprise for many. Even without the dual camera, the Redmi Note 4 will make for an interesting offering, provided Xiaomi rolls it out to the Indian market soon after the China launch. Xiaomi need to up its game with a powerful handset because LeEco’s Le 2 has caught up and offers plenty more with a Snapdragon 652 chipset. Add to this the vast LeEco Live content selection and consumers may think twice over buying a Xiaomi handset.
Xiaomi is also said to be working on a premium smartphone as well, according to co-founder, Liwan Jiang. The Chinese smartphone maker hasscheduled a big launch for 27 July where the company is expected to announce two smartphones and even a laptop. The metal smartphone above could also be the rumoured Mi Note 2 a successor to the earlier Mi Note smartphone.
